    Remote Messaging and Object Distribution

Using our fast object serializer/deserializer and the VisualWorks® socket interface, we built a fast remote messaging framework. It provides transparent and efficient inter-image transmission of messages. A single image can run any number of servers, each of which can communicate with any number of other images, for full peer-to-peer distribution.

Using a small library, this can also be used with C programs, and it has been used for communication between a network equipment management system and HP OpenView.

This is a picture of a remote workspace.

    Workspace from Remote Workstation

To aid communications during development, the framework is used to "zap" workspaces between developers in an instant. (These workspaces can even contain hypertext links!)
