Penstemon
Description:
Summer comes late to the 7,000 foot rim of Crater Lake in south-central Oregon, but soon after the snow melts in June, the summer breeze whips streaks of pollen across the lake and the pumice-studded soil erupts into glorious bloom.
This is the common penstemon davidsonii, found throughout the Cascade Mountains of the western USA at subalpine elevations.
