Photoshop for Photographers

When: Every Wednesday, 21 Jan 04 through 10 Mar 04, 3:30 am - 5:30 am
Where: Canby High School, Canby, Oregon. (Map)
Cost: $92, including computer lab fee

What: In this hands-on photo image manipulation class, featuring Adobe Photoshop, Jan Steinman will teach basic topics such as: digital image theory, adjusting size, contrast, and color, and applying special effects via masks and layers to make composites and montages.

Advanced topics will include lots of different ways to make selections and masks, bringing out detail in shadows and highlights, controlling noise and grain, and making big prints.

Specific topics of interest to individual students are discussed, such as home printing, digital camera selection and use, email/web use, etc. Students will work on their particular projects the in the final weeks.

Although not required, a copy of Photoshop for home practice is very desirable.

Art & Science of Photography

Cost: $60 plus estimated $77 in film and processing costs

What: Jan Steinman teaches bacic photographic theory, including camera operation, perspective, exposure, motion control, and depth-of-field, along with advanced topics, such as lighting, specialized equipment, close-up, composition, and "seeing" images.

Each week, you will shoot a roll of slide film (available from instructor) on an assignment, which is reviewed and critiqued in the following class. You'll also get to apply what you've learned in a class field trip.

A camera capable of manual control of both exposure and focus is required.

Bring four slides or prints to the first class; two that you're especially proud of, and two that could use improvement.

Art and the Vineyard

When: Friday, 2 Jul 04, through Sunday, 4 Jul 04, 8:30 pm - 8:30 am
Where: Alton Baker Park, Eugene, Oregon (Map)
Cost: $5 daily, $8 all three days, $1 for children 12 and under on July 4, children 12 and under FREE on July 5 & 6

What: This festival features garden and landscape art, as well as over 100 fine artisans and crafters, the area's finest wine and beer, a varied & yummy food court, and the finest regional music acts.

Art in the Park

When: Saturday, 10 Jul 04, through Sunday, 11 Jul 04, 3:00 am - 10:00 am
Where: West Lincoln Park, Steamboat Springs, Colorado (Map)
Cost: Free!

What: This annual arts and crafts fair is held in West Lincoln Park during Rainbow Weekend. Over 200 artisans, food vendors and musicians participate. Between 8,000 - 10,000 people attend this 2-day event. Entertainment includes local musicians, children theater performance and visiting artists. Begin making plans to visit beautiful Steamboat Springs this weekend. Call 879-9008 for information.

Downtown Duluth Sidewalk Days

What: The Greater Downtown Council is gearing up to celebrate summer with the highly popular Sidewalk Days. In addition to fine art and craft, there will be live music, theatrical skits, artistic demonstrations, and unique food that the whole family can enjoy, all on Superior Street between Lake Av & 5th Av W.

Bay Harbor Summer Art Fair

11th Annual Hildene Foliage Art & Craft Festival

21st Annual Stowe Foliage Art & Craft Festival

What: This gorgeous festival is held at the top of the Weeks Road at the Stowe Events Field, Stowe Vermont.
